During my years at fusion jeunesse, I worked with secondary students to get them to carry out a project of their own. As these students are in their academic beginnings, I had to pass on the right procedures to follow to complete a video game project from A to Z.
The majority of young people have never touched drawing or music software. They had to be taught the use of this software from the start. The task was harder for them when we worked with the engine for their games as it requires additional dexterity. Despite the help I could give them, the primary goal is to make their game with their ideas in mind.
Throughout the school years, I had to adapt and translate concepts specific to the organization of a project using an agile method. As the young people are around 13 years old, I had to manage the agenda of each video game project in production and modify the work tasks to meet the deadlines set.
The Covid and the restrictions that came with it hit projects hard and we had to adapt. With my students and teachers, we set up a system to be able to work remotely and carried out the project. It took a while to adapt, but since we were already using the school board’s cloud network, the students' work was accessible remotely and their project was able to finish.
The main mandate that I have for Youth Fusion is the academic perseverance of young people with the accomplishment of their projects. So if the kids are happy with the game they produced, I consider the job done.
