Leap motion is a hand movement recognition device. This is mainly used for VR projects. I decided to use this device for a game in order to create a hybridization of two types of control.

Professional goal

The Leap Motion is an accessory that is sold primarily as a peripheral for a VR headset. I decided to use this device to create two different intervention modes for the same player (symbolic and mimetic).

Technical challenge

As I am not a great programmer and have not had much experience playing games with physics, I had to deal with the impact that the player’s hand can have with the objects in the game, as the freedom of control that the leap motion gives is enormous for the intended objective (for example, the hand should not push the character to be controlled by the other controller).

Two characters, two controls, one player

The player will have to embody two characters in his adventure. The first one is a weak and frail figure who is controlled by the keyboard. The second is a spirit whose hands can affect the environment. He is controlled with the Leap motion.

Complementary capacities

In the game, the characters do not have the same relationship with the environment. Everyone interacts differently. The first character can interact with objects that are small and very mechanical. For the second as he is a spirit, he can interact with all the elements which are magical as well as natural. So the characters cannot dissociate from one another to proceed.

Example of a level

For learning to control two characters, this level uses the abilities of the characters alternately. The goal is to teach the player’s abilities in a subtle way.
